Tips to make sure you don’t scare off an employer

Here are some of our top tips for making sure you dont scare off a potential employer whilst using your social networking sites.

- Google your name. By checking what appears when you search for your own name, you can avoid any embarrassing encounters by getting rid of anything inappropriate that you would not want a potential employer seeing.

- Double check any photos or comments that you or your friends have put up, on Facebook especially. If there is anything damaging, it would be good to remove it straight away.

- Check what groups you are members of and remove yourself if you think employers would not like it.

- Double check any personal experiences that you may have written about in a blog or on a website that would not go down too well with an employer. It may be a good idea to remove these.

- Remove any friends who may post indecent and inappropriate information as if you are seen to be friends with them it may reflect badly on you.

- Probably best not to go into too much detail about recent failings with job interviews or job applications. This may put another potential employer off.
